ADBOP · UPDATED 1 NOVEMBER 2026

Terms of service

1. The service and this agreement

Andrew Harwood, Dillon Harwood and Thea Sinclair, trading as adbop supplies adbop: account, advert-design, publishing, device-display and browser-control software. The operator's address and contacts are below. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. You must be at least 18 and authorised to act for any business you represent. Our Privacy notice, Data retention notice and Music rights notice explain related obligations. You can save or print these pages for your records.

2. Accounts and permitted use

These rules apply before and after launch. Each person uses their own sign-in. Protect passwords and authenticator codes and report suspected misuse to support. Agents set and collect their own client charges; those arrangements are between Agent and client. adbop does not promise advertising results or collect those client payments.

3. Your adverts and other people's information

You retain ownership of your content. You grant us a non-exclusive permission to store, resize, transmit and display it on your authorised devices only as needed to provide and secure the service. You must hold the necessary copyright, image, trademark and other permissions. Adverts, offers and prices must be accurate and lawful, including under applicable South African consumer and advertising law. Do not upload unlawful, discriminatory, infringing, misleading or malicious content.

If you supply someone else's personal information, such as a venue contact or team member, you must be entitled to do so, give them the relevant privacy information and respect their POPIA rights. We act as responsible party for our account/security administration and as operator where we process your client content on your documented instructions. We use that content to provide the service, apply confidentiality and security safeguards, and assist with lawful data-subject requests and security incidents. A separate written processing agreement may record additional instructions.

4. Devices, connectivity and music

adbop requires an internet connection to its server, including Guest mode. Browser music, phone control and Guest stop when connectivity is lost or server access cannot be confirmed. Offline advert playback is off by default and only we can turn it on, for an Owner account or for an individual Agent-hosted venue. Where it is on, an approved linked Android TV can keep showing adverts it has fully downloaded and verified, and keep playing verified uploaded music, while offline and after a restart, unless we already know the account is suspended, revoked or past its paid period. A TV that is already offline receives a change to this permission only when it reconnects. Without it, adverts and uploaded music also stop offline; downloaded files and pairing remain on the device so it can resume when online. First pairing codes last three minutes.

The Android app uses its built-in browser, which opens at Google. You turn Phone control on or off on the device; it remembers that choice after restart. Phone sessions expire after 15 minutes. Music websites such as YouTube Music, Spotify and Apple Music set their own account, playback, region and DRM rules. We do not bypass them or guarantee that every service works on every device.

Whoever controls a venue's music can upload MP3, M4A or AAC tracks, up to 50 MB each and 1 GB per venue, which the venue's TVs download and play in the media player. Upload only tracks you own or are licensed to copy and use this way. Neither browser access nor uploaded music supplies public-performance or business-music licences; the venue is responsible for those. See Music rights.

5. Packages, prices and launch

Our prices are in US dollars (USD). No payment is taken online before we announce launch, and choosing a package does not by itself authorise a charge. Before a paid online purchase we will show the package, included allowances, full price and currency, taxes or charges, billing period, renewal/cancellation terms and payment provider. You can review and correct the order and withdraw before confirming. Paid access requires your express agreement; we do not start charging just because launch is announced. Electronic service delivery takes place through your account and connected devices.

Cash billing. Accounts in Zimbabwe and South Africa can agree with us to pay in cash, or by another method we accept such as EcoCash or bank transfer, in US dollars at the same prices in every region, before or after launch. A cash-billed account has a named AdsBop contact who handles its billing. The first payment date is agreed when you join; payment then falls due monthly, plus the once-off fee for an Agent account. You receive numbered quotes, invoices and receipts, which are also listed on your Package & billing page. Venue and TV changes apply from the next billing period, without part-month charges or refunds. Nothing is collected from you automatically and cash-billed accounts do not use online checkout. An account still unpaid after its grace period may be suspended by a member of our staff, who records the reason; it is never suspended automatically.

6. Cancellation and refunds

We do not offer discretionary or change-of-mind refunds. A cash payment recorded in error is corrected and its receipt voided. This policy does not remove any cancellation, cooling-off, refund, repair or other remedy that the law requires, or any mandatory payment-provider remedy when payments begin.

Where the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 applies and no statutory exception applies, a consumer may cancel a service transaction within seven days after the agreement is concluded, without a penalty, and qualifying refunds are due within 30 days of cancellation. We do not assume that opening an account waives a cooling-off right. Where applicable, the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 also provides direct-marketing cooling-off, fixed-term cancellation and service-quality remedies. A qualifying fixed-term consumer agreement can be cancelled on 20 business days' recorded notice, subject only to a lawful reasonable cancellation charge. Defective service may entitle a consumer to correction or a reasonable refund under section 54. The applicable Act, transaction and circumstances determine the remedy.

Send cancellation or statutory-remedy requests to [email protected] with your account email, the transaction reference if any, and what happened. Do not send card details or passwords. Cancellation of a future paid subscription must also stop future renewals; deleting an account does not itself cancel a separate contract with a music provider or an Agent.

7. Availability, updates and support

We take reasonable care to provide the agreed service and tell you of material interruptions or changes. Internet access, compatible hardware and third-party music subscriptions/licences are your responsibility. Keep a separate copy of content you need. Updates are supplied through our website and the app's update process. We do not promise uninterrupted access or an unlisted device/service combination, and this does not exclude statutory service-quality duties.

Support is at [email protected]. An administrator can enter an account for a support visit only with the account holder's authorisation and password confirmation. That password is not saved, logged or disclosed; support visits are audited.

8. Suspension and account closure

We may restrict unlawful or harmful activity and investigate security concerns. We will explain the reason and a route to resolve it, except where disclosure would be unlawful or compromise security. Where a contract or law requires notice and an opportunity to remedy a breach, we honour that requirement; urgent proportionate restrictions may be necessary to protect people or systems. Suspension is separate from permanent account closure.

An Owner or Agent can close their own account in Account security using the account name and current password. Agent closure also deletes all managed venues, their venue-client accounts, adverts, publications and device access. The confirmation lists the venues; arrange closure with your clients first and keep any content you need. Account closure is irreversible and ends sessions and device credentials. The confirmation says “Your account has been closed.” A device that is offline at closure keeps its local files until cleared and, where offline playback was allowed, can keep showing them until it reconnects and learns of the closure. The Data retention notice explains deletion and lawful retention. A subscription that could still charge must be resolved before deletion.

9. Responsibility and limits

You are responsible for your authorised users and your own content. We are responsible for our service and conduct as required by law. To the extent lawfully permitted, we exclude indirect or consequential business losses and cap other contractual damages at the fees paid to adbop for the affected service in the preceding 12 months. These limits do not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or liability and consumer remedies that cannot lawfully be limited. They do not make a consumer waive a statutory right. Any liability for an Agent's own client service remains subject to the Agent's agreement and applicable law.

10. Complaints, law and changes

Contact support first with enough information to investigate. We aim to acknowledge complaints within five business days and respond substantively within 30 days; statutory deadlines take precedence. You may approach the National Consumer Commission, an applicable accredited ombud, the Information Regulator for information rights, or a competent court. You do not have to give up those routes or accept compulsory private arbitration.

South African law governs these terms without displacing mandatory protection in another country that applies to you. Material changes are notified in advance and do not retrospectively remove accrued rights or impose a new payment without agreement. If you do not accept a material change you may stop using the service and exercise any applicable cancellation rights.
